imaQcut- plasma cutting machine

Plasma cutters use an electric arc to cut through sheet and plate metal at very high temperature, enabling them to create complex shapes and patterns. But traditional horizontally-mounted plasma cutters expose operators to carcinogenic fumes which are difficult to ventilate away.

By mounting the cutter vertically, Australasian Industrial Marketing Services (AIMS) has created a plasma cutter, theimaQcut, which can be fully-enclosed. Hence all fumes are collected at the top and drawn away from the work area.

The imaQcut overcomes other limitations of horizontally-mounted units, such the tendency for cut sheets to weld to their supporting struts, requiring them to be pried away.  By resting the plate on its edge these supports are not required.

Thicker cut sections rest within the original sheet, while thinner cut sheet profiles are left partially attached, allowing them to be lifted out in one piece. This ensures that the cutter is more productive with more jobs completed each day, and sheets are retrieved with fewer scratches. The imaQcut can cut thin material with less buckling, as gravity helps keep the parts straight.

The imaQcut occupies only one third of the floor space of a conventional cutter, and needs only be accessed by the operator from the front, rather than from all four sides. Hence it can be placed against a wall to free up more workshop floor space. It is also easier to clean than conventional cutters.

Altogether these advantages can deliver a return-on-investment of just three months over conventional plasma cutters. AIMS is currently selling its imaQcut vertical plasma cutters in Australia and is receiving interest from all parts of the globe.
