ASPECT Digital

Spatial prototyping: A system for producing realtime digital prototypes

The main aim of Spatial Prototyping is to provide clearer representation, communication and understanding of the complexities of spaces and objects. As such it provides an insight and understanding into what potential spaces and products may be, without the need to build them and secondly to enable stronger communication with non-technical team members, stakeholders and members of the community or public that have difficulty reading plans, sections or other technical media.

Spatial Prototyping is based on open source computer software and the 'models' that are created to run within the software are created and owned by Aspect Digital Pty Ltd, which is wholly Australian owned.

One of the biggest cost benefits to using VRML to create the Spatial Prototypes is the ability to quickly and simply perform alterations, additions or changes. This provides value for money and a product that is updated or tailored quickly. VRML is also quite web friendly and can be stored online, made available to a wider audience and allow simultaneous interaction, reducing the cost associated with 'hard' copy CDs or prints.

This technology is entirely based on the concept of collaboration, and as such there is huge scope for expansion and growth. Opportunities for collaboration exist within all professional design disciplines as well as infrastructure industries locally and internationally.

The technology provides a means to enable better prototyping and therefore better communication through the use of interactive 'virtual' technology rather than through plans, sections and other technical media. As the technology requires no products other than standard computer components and operating systems, it is environmentally sustainable.

We are currently looking to provide consultation services and sales for Spatial Prototyping and look forward to any innovative proposals about potential implementations or uses for the technology.
